What to Expect in Preschool
What to Expect in the Little Knights Preschool Program
“We love Jesus, books and friends. We are the Little Knight Lights that Shine for Him.”
The Little Knights Preschool Program provides a loving and joyful environment that focuses on the “whole” child. Our program is designed to foster the spiritual, social, cognitive and physical development of each student. Little Knights Preschool is staffed by nurturing, experienced teachers who have a heart for serving the Lord and for loving His little lambs.
Children are taught to know and love the Lord through Old and New Testament stories, songs, and scripture memorization. Godly character development is emphasized through a variety of “big book” stories. Social development is encouraged through social interaction in both structured and unstructured cooperative play.
Preschool students participate weekly in the following special activities: music and movement, art, Spanish, and story time in the library (5 day program only). They also have daily playground time. Special days include a visit from the petting zoo and fire department, Thanksgiving celebration, Christmas pageant, Valentine’s Day party, 50’s sock hop, Easter egg hunt, end-of-year program, and luau.
An emphasis is placed on the development of phonemic awareness skills. Reading, writing and math readiness skills are taught through the phonics based Abeka curriculum. Students also participate in multi-sensory learning centers that focus on meeting the different learning styles.
Preschool (PK3 and PK5)
Parents have the option of enrolling their child in either a three day (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) or a five day program. Children must be 4 years old by September 1. Preschool hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
An emphasis is placed on the development of phonemic awareness skills. Reading and math readiness skills are taught through the phonics based A Beka curriculum. Writing is taught through Handwriting Without Tears. Additionally, students participate in multi-sensory centers designed to engage their senses in the learning environment.
Kinder Readiness (KR)
The Kinder Readiness class provides a stimulating environment for children who are five years old by September 1 but not quite ready for the structure and demands of Kindergarten. This class is largely made up of students who would benefit from what we call the “gift of time.” The Kinder Readiness class is a 5 day program, and the hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Abeka curriculum is used, but the academic pace is accelerated from that of the 4-year-old preschool program. Students read additional books, do more complex projects and crafts, and complete more independent work.
Little Knights Enrichment Program
For an additional fee, parents have the option of enrolling their child into the Little Knights Enrichment Program which extends the day to 3:00pm. This option is available for all students in three day (PK3), five day (PK5) and Kinder Readiness (KR5) classes.
Instruction during this time is an extension of the learning that takes place in the morning. Students participate in many different hands-on learning activities such as cooking, science experiments, dramatic play, and arts & crafts. Students will also have rest time and playground time
