Student Clubs

Pep Squad: Preschool through 5th grade girls promote school spirit through Pep Squad. We currently have 64 members who cheer at home football games and pep rallies. GO KNIGHTS! For information, contact Shannon Ficklin at sficklin@hccsa.org.

Knight Guard: Preschool through 5th grade boys promote school spirit at home football games and pep rallies through Knight Guard. GO KNIGHTS! For information, contact Shannon Ficklin at sficklin@hccsa.org.

Dance Team: The dance team is for girls in 5th-7th grades. Students learn technique and routines that are performed at school functions. No experience necessary! Contact Alyssa Dyson at jadyson@austin.rr.com.

Practical Ministries: These Upper School students plan and lead chapel services and participate in service projects. Many talents are needed, including musicians, vocalists, technicians, prayer team, and support team. Contact Ed Baptiste at ebaptiste@hccsa.org.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes: The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) challenges athletes to impact the world for Jesus Christ. For information about our branch of this national organization, contact Debby Krohmer at dkrohmer@hccsa.org.

Student Council: These high school students, elected to represent their classes, organize events such as the Homecoming Dance, Winter Hoedown, and End-of-Year Boat Party. Student Council works closely with the Head Master, Dean of Students, and the faculty advisor, Nichole Perez, nperez@hccsa.org.

Safety Patrol: Safety Patrol is a group of 6th graders who desire to follow Christ’s example by putting the needs of others first. They lead by example and encourage younger students to observe safety rules during carpool. Contact Donna Harrison at dharrison@hccsa.org for information.

Fencing Club: The Fencing Club provides instruction in both Foil and Epee, and we will soon add a tournament squad for Men's and Women's Foil and Epee. There is always room to join the squad or just come learn the sport and spar with classmates. Contact Sean Mathis at smathis@hccsa.org.

Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts: Boys may join Cub Scouts (1st-5th) or Boy Scouts (6th-12th), chartered by Hill Country Bible Church. Boys learn leadership and life skills through hands-on opportunities in a fun, outdoor environment. Cub Scouts requires active parent participation, and Boy Scouts transitions to student leadership. Choir: The select choir for 4th-6th grade boys and girls practices weekly and performs at least twice per school year. For information, contact Kristen Burritt at kburritt1971@yahoo.com.

American Heritage Girls: American Heritage Girls is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to the mission of building women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country. Academic Clubs

Certamen Team: Certamen is a competitive, quiz-bowl style game. Hill Country has a strong tradition of successful teams. Upper School students enrolled in a Latin class with at least a 3.0 are eligible to participate. Contact Sean Mathis at smathis@hccsa.org.

Destination Imagination (DI): Available to 3rd-12th graders, DI encourages students to apply creative and critical thinking through teamwork. With parent managers, teams work on challenges and present their solutions at a tournament. Winning teams may advance. In 2010, our 4th grade team placed 1st at both the regional and state tournaments, advancing to the global competition! Contact Audrey Folwarski at hccsadi@yahoo.com.

Chess Club: During the 2nd quarter, 1st-6th grade club members meet after school to learn about and play Chess. Meetings begin with a short lesson on fundamentals and strategies. Students are paired by experience and play Chess as teachers and volunteers provide guidance and support. The club concludes with a tournament and awards. Contact Kristine Kruse at kkruse@hccsa.org.

Sodalitas History Club: This club for 3rd-6th graders meets monthly to deepen their knowledge of and interest in culture, people, places and events throughout time, emphasizing a Christian worldview. Activities include guest speakers and a field study. Contact Kristine Kruse at kkruse@hccsa.org.

Latin Club: Latin Club is primarily a social organization, but we also participate in competitive events. Our social outings include pizza night, bowling, and paintball. If you are a current Latin student interested in joining, contact Sean Mathis at smathis@hccsa.org.

National Honor Society: The National Honor Society (NHS) recognizes outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS commends students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Contact Debby Krohmer at dkrohmer@hccsa.org.

Library Programs: Accelerated Reader is a computerized reading practice system where 1st-6th graders track comprehension and earn points. Crown and Lamplighter encourage 3rd-6th graders to critique books and send recommendations to publishers and authors. The library also sponsors book fairs and All School Read.
