Head of School Announcement

Head of School Announcement

May 18, 2018

Dear Hill Country Community,

After prayerful consideration, the Hill Country Christian School of Austin Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Jeff Marx as the next head of school effective on August 1, 2018. Having served in various roles in the school over the last twelve years, including teaching, coaching, and most recently serving as Upper School principal, Dr. Marx brings a unique set of skills and experiences to the leadership of our school. Our students affectionately refer him to as “Dr. Mr. Coach Marx.” Our current head of school Tim Hillen said of Dr. Marx, “Hill Country is extremely blessed to hire a man as qualified, capable, and committed as Jeff Marx as the next head of school. He is the ideal person to lead our school in the next exciting phase of operations. Indeed, the best days of Hill Country Christian School are ahead!”

The board considered launching a full search for the new head of school but determined that Dr. Marx’s academic and professional experience offered the school an excellent candidate. In his discussions with the board during the selection process, Dr. Marx emphasized his passion for discipleship and development of teaching skills, as well as his support for building spiritual identity among students, staff, and faculty. We believe that Dr. Marx will enable the school to fulfill our vision as we look forward to growth at all levels, including educational offerings and facilities. Dr. Marx shares, “I hope to further the mission and vision of Hill Country Christian School by developing our people and programs in order to deliver the best PreK-12 private education in Austin. We are committed to a Christ-centered, classical, and college-preparatory education.”

Dr. Marx graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. After pursuing a career in optical networking, Dr. Marx responded to God’s call to obtain a Master of Arts in Christian Education, thus beginning a new phase of his profession and ministry. During his tenure at Hill Country, Dr. Marx has been instrumental in countless areas, including developing our Math Mastery program, refining our faculty evaluation process, and ensuring curriculum alignment from PK-12. He is a strategic thinker and educational innovator. One of Dr. Marx’s greatest traits is a unique ability and strong desire to effectively collaborate across departments and teams.

While moving through this transition, we are excited that Tim Hillen will serve the school as an advising consultant in key areas of school life through December 2018. We express sincere gratitude to Mr. Hillen for his service during a critical time in our history and for his ongoing commitment to lasting excellence in the school. Mr. Hillen and his wife Marty plan to relocate to Indianapolis, where their daughter’s family resides.

We recognize that this transition creates the need for a new Upper School principal. Mr. Hillen and Dr. Marx are currently working to identify candidates, and they anticipate that the position will be filled before the start of the school year. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Marx, honoring Mr. Hillen for his tenure, and praying for Spirit-guided transitions over the summer and into the new school year! We thank the Lord for both gentlemen as they leave lasting legacies in the lives of our students!

The Hill Country Christian School Board of Trustees

A Message from Dr. Marx:

Dear Hill Country Families,

I am honored and humbled to serve as the next head of school at Hill Country Christian School of Austin. I look forward to working with the board of trustees, an amazing faculty and staff, and the broader school community to advance the mission and vision of the school.

My wife Sherri and I have been married for 29 years and have three children: Lewis (20), Oliver (17), and Grace (14), Class of 2021. Our family attends Hill Country Bible Church. Sherri and I worked with young adults and young married couples at HCBC for seven years, and Sherri currently serves in women’s ministry.

Upon finishing my Ph.D. at Texas A&M University, I spent three years developing device technology for fiber-optic networks and then co-founded an optical networking company. After selling the company, Sherri and I entered a full year of prayer to ascertain the Lord’s next path for us. I then entered Dallas Theological Seminary and completed a M.A. in Christian Education. This month marks the completion of my 15th year working in Christian schools.

I came to Hill Country Christian School in the fall of 2006 after serving for three years at McKinney Christian Academy. Since then, I have served our school as academic and college guidance counselor, academic dean, Logic School principal, department chair, and most recently Upper School principal. In addition I have taught many Upper School classes across three different departments. I was also blessed to serve as a football coach for 10 years. I love the Lord, and I love our school.

Hill Country Christian School provides an outstanding PreK-12 classical, college-preparatory curriculum, including intentional biblical worldview training. I look forward to collaborating with our community to enhance STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), athletics, and other important co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities, as well as to foster unity and effective communication. Our strategic goals for the future are exciting and expansive.

Please join me in regular prayer for our school. My prayer is that God will expand our territory so we can reach more students for Him while providing an excellent PreK–12 education. By our faith, may everyone know to Whom we belong!

In Him,

Jeff Marx
