I earned my degree in elementary education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Before moving to Austin in 2008, I taught PreK at Fort Benning, GA., 1st, 5th, and 6th grades at Fort Bragg, NC., and 1st and 2nd grade in Savannah, GA. I was also a special education teaching assistant for Round Rock ISD before coming on staff at Hill Country in 2021. I have one alumna, Class of 2020, and two students, Classes of 2022 and 2028.

Swimming

Hiking in the mountains.

Growing up, you hoped to become an…
Astronaut, paleontologist, archeologist, fighter pilot, and teacher.

What is an interesting fact about you?
I earned a four-year swimming scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I won the CAC Conference title in 200 Fly while on the team.

If you could meet one historical figure or famous person, who would it be and why?
I want to meet Harriet Tubman and hear her detailed life story. I want to hear how she weaves her heroic stories of bravery and danger and rescue with her Faith and Trust in God. She truly loved others above herself and trusted in the Lord so completely. I want to know if she had a favorite bible verse or song or prayer that emboldened her and brought her comfort.

What is your favorite Scripture or quote?
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Who has had the greatest influence on your life and why?
My mom and dad had a huge influence on me because they taught me to love Jesus and trust in Him and His plans for my life. I also had great influence from my coaches because they helped me develop my work ethic, positive outlook, tenacity and grit.

What do you believe makes Hill Country distinct?
Hill country teachers are intentional about having relationships with their students; they truly know their students. Hill Country teachers pray together and pray with students and pray with families – this fact is what makes us distinct.

What do you love about teaching at Hill Country?
I love to help little kids make connections with their world and the stories in the Bible. It’s pretty amazing that I get to help preschoolers learn that Jesus’ story is a perfect example of showing us how to love, trust, work hard, and persevere.
