College-preparatory Curriculum
Hill Country Christian School of Austin provides a challenging course of study that meets or exceeds admission requirements at top colleges and universities in the United States and abroad. We help cultivate Christian virtue and educate according to natural phases of student development. Students are taught the skills and concepts that will serve as the foundation for future learning through the following:
Elementary (K-5th)
- Emphasis on phonics, reading, writing, and handwriting in grammar school
- Character development and Scripture memorization
- Enrichment study in the arts, library, music, physical education (PE), Spanish, and STEM beginning in grammar school.
- Our 1st-5th graders develop communication and public speaking skills through Speech Meet. Students present their selection before judges who score them and provide encouraging and helpful feedback.
Middle School (6th-8th)
- Three years of English, theology, social studies, science, math, and at least two years of Latin
- At least one year of Spanish or continuation of Latin
- One semester of Introduction to Logic
- Physical education 6th grade, elective for 7th and 8th grades
- 6th-grade fine arts exploratories in art, music, photography, and theatre
- 7th-grade technology exploratories in coding, digital design, robotics, and video
- Introduction to Engineering and Digital Design
- Leadership and service opportunities in the House System
High School (9th-12th)
- Four years of high school English, social studies, theology, and rhetoric, including Logic, Speech, and Debate
- At least three years of math and science
- At least two years of foreign language (three recommended)
- At least one year of fine arts
- At least one year of athletics/physical education
- Various Dual Credit, Advanced Placement and Honors offerings
- Senior Thesis capstone experience
- Digital literacy and technology skills, including 1:1 Technology Initiative
