MEET ERIC DEVRIES
Eric DeVries

Eric DeVries is an experienced school leader with a passion for classical Christian education. With over 17 years as a Head of School, he has helped schools grow and thrive, strengthen their finances, lead capital projects and fundraising efforts, and improve strategic planning.

PERSONAL BACKGROUND
Eric was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and moved to Washington state at a young age. During his junior year of high school, he experienced a profound spiritual awakening and committed his life to Jesus Christ. This pivotal decision inspired him to pursue a theology degree at Whitworth University, where he not only deepened his faith but also met his wife, Jen. They married in their senior year and recently celebrated 26 years of marriage. They are blessed with five children.

EDUCATIONAL CAREER
Eric holds a Master of Arts in Leadership (M.A.) from Gordon College, with a focus on classical Christian schools. He joined The River Academy (Wenatchee, WA) as a history, theology, and Bible teacher in 2004, advanced to assistant administrator overseeing fundraising in 2006, and became interim—soon permanent—Head of School in 2008. In 2022, Eric became Head of School at Westminster School at Oak Mountain in Birmingham, Alabama. He has had a proven track record of academic success in both schools he has served. Eric’s leadership reflects his commitment to Christian education, student success, and financial sustainability. His work continues to shape thriving academic communities built on faith and excellence.

Our Campus

Hill Country Christian School of Austin sits on a 54-acre campus serving families across the Austin metro area who seek a private, Christ-centered education for their college-bound students.

We welcome students from Cedar Park, Round Rock, Lakeway, Leander, Lago Vista, Lake Travis, Georgetown, and nearby communities including Four Points, Steiner Ranch, Liberty Hill, Manor, Marble Falls, Bee Cave, Taylor, and Pflugerville.

Soon, our campus will grow by an additional 10.62 acres, allowing us to expand facilities and welcome even more students into our Christ-centered community.

With representatives highlighting 360+ majors, it was an exciting morning of discovery—not just for Hill Country Upper Schoolers, but for students across the Austin area looking to take their next step in private Christian higher education.

It was early 1990, and a handful of Texas youth on a church retreat decided to pray over schools. They gathered around the school flagpoles at night, asking the Lord to save lives, redeem families, bless leaders, and heal communities. Later that year, the students shared their story at a large summer camp, challenging students to join them in seeking the Lord for their communities. The first official See You At The Pole (SYATP) took place that fall, on September 12, 1990, with 56,000 students gathering at the flagpoles of 1,200 campuses to pray for their classmates, teachers, leaders, and nation. The following year, over 800,000 students participated in the U.S. and abroad. By 1994, over 2 million students were seeking Christ for their schools and nations, and in 2005 had reached into countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe.

What makes See You At The Pole unique? It was started by students and led by students who want to see God’s Kingdom come and His will be done in their communities, at their schools, and in their lives. Each year, Hill Country Christian School of Austin hosts a See You At The Pole event, inviting students and families to pray. We gather at the flagpole in front of the MAC to pray in small groups and as a whole for God’s work in our community and country. God told Solomon that “if My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chron. 7:14).

Next Wednesday, September 23, Hill Country students will gather again to seek the face of God, to humble themselves, to ask Him to bless our school, to forgive our nation, to heal our communities, to pour out His love and grace and truth on our school, nation, and world. This year’s theme is from Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me.” There is no other source of lasting peace or hope than the person of Jesus Christ. Our students will pray for God to draw all people to His Son to find eternal life in His grace and peace. Please join us in praying for them as they gather to pray.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we pause to remember and honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day—the men and women who went to work at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and never returned home; the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and other first responders who ran toward danger to save people they had never met; and the passengers and crew of United Flight 93, ordinary Americans whose extraordinary courage helped prevent an even greater tragedy.

We remember those we lost with gratitude and solemn respect. We remember the families whose lives were forever changed. And we honor the courage, sacrifice, and selflessness displayed on one of the darkest days in our nation’s history.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” — John 15:13
