Evening of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness: A Celebration of Classical Christian Learning

Dear Hill Country Families,
When I first came to Hill Country in Fall 2018, one thing made an immediate and lasting impression on me: the incredible variety of events thoughtfully planned to enrich our students’ lives while also cultivating a strong and vibrant school community makes our school so special. Every program, club, party, and celebration is prayerfully and intentionally designed to celebrate student learning and bridge the connection between the home and school. Through these shared experiences, families develop a deeper sense of belonging and partnership, allowing our entire community to grow together in faith.
In Preschool and Elementary, many of our capstone events are rooted in the classical tradition, reflecting historical events our students study throughout the school year. Kindergarten’s annual Creation Program points to the larger story of God’s relationship with His people, highlighting themes of God’s goodness and His continued love and plan for redemption. Grade-level events like Egyptian Day, Roman Market, Greek Olympics, and Medieval Festival allow students to experience history, literature, and culture in vivid, memorable ways. In this way, classical Christian education emphasizes immersing students in the great civilizations of the past, helping them understand how those cultures shaped the development of Western civilization and the Christian faith.
These events reflect the grammar stage of classical education, when students learn best through stories, songs, hands-on activities, and experiences that bring the history and literature to life. Rather than simply reading about ancient Egypt, Greece, or the Middle Ages, students step into those worlds through games, crafts, presentations, and performances that reinforce and deepen what they have learned in the classroom.
Not only do these experiences strengthen memory and deepen understanding, but they also reflect the classical emphasis on integrated learning, engaging with multiple subjects at once. For example, while studying ancient Greece, students learn about mythology, geography, architecture, athletics, philosophy, and art. And during the Greek Olympics, students experience the athletic traditions of ancient Greece while connecting to the history and values of that civilization. Similarly, the Medieval Festival highlights art, music, literature, scientific discoveries, and important historical figures. These events give students opportunities to appreciate the beauty of art, music, architecture, and craftsmanship from past cultures, and to reflect on the ideas, virtues, and beliefs that shaped those societies.
One of the most celebrated events in Elementary School is the capstone spring program, Evening of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness, which reflects one of the core purposes of classical education: the pursuit of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.

TRUTH is at the heart of why this school was founded nearly 30 years ago. Our aim, now and always, will be to model and teach that truth is what is real and accurate, and that all truth ultimately comes from God as the source of wisdom and understanding.
BEAUTY is that which inspires wonder, harmony, and appreciation. We want our students to appreciate the creativity and order of God’s creation, experience beauty through learning music, literature, movement, art, and languages, and develop a sense of wonder, creativity, and gratitude for the world around them.

GOODNESS refers to moral excellence and virtuous living. Teaching God’s Word through chapel, worship, Scripture memory, and Bible lessons, we partner with families to develop strong character in our students. They learn that living according to biblical values, such as love, honesty, humility, and service, helps them understand their purpose, build respectful relationships, and make wise choices.
Tonight at the 2026 Evening of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness, you’ll see a showcase of grade-level vocal and instrumental performances, our elementary choir, an art display, and highlights from our enrichments: P.E., STEM, Spanish, and Library. I am incredibly proud of our preschool and elementary students, teachers, and staff for demonstrating what it means to pursue truth with the mind, appreciate beauty with the heart, and practice goodness through their actions. In doing so, they help encourage every child to grow into a thoughtful, compassionate, and faithful member of society.
Blessings,
Jessica Tracy, Preschool and Elementary School Principal
