God Equips Those He Calls

Dear Hill Country Community,

As I complete my 16th and final year at Hill Country Christian School, I’ve come to a new understanding of the truth that God equips those He calls. First, a couple of biblical examples.

In Exodus chapter three, fear and doubt characterize Moses’ initial response to God’s call. “So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” (Ex. 3:10, NIV84). Moses responds, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” (Ex. 3:11). After initial encouragement and the promise of Aaron’s help, Moses obeyed (Ex. 7:6-7), and went on to lead Israel to the brink of the promised land. After the initial fear, Moses knew that God was with him.

Peter initially responds to Jesus’ arrest, interrogation, and crucifixion with fear. (John 18:15-18, 25-27). Jesus later restores Peter to His calling (John 21:15-19), after which Peter’s ministry is unrecognizable just a week later, due to a complete lack of fear (Acts 2:14-41)!

When God initially calls, we respond in fear because our first instinct is to know we don’t measure up. However, God equips those He calls, and obedience rapidly builds confidence and eliminates fear. Then, supernatural things can happen as God works through us!

Is God calling you? “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” (Isa 6:8a)

What are you afraid of?

Do you really think your boat will sink if Jesus is in it?

Results are often transcendent and rarely boring!

In Christ,
