The Faithfulness of God

April 17, 2025

Dear Hill Country Families,

My calling to Hill Country Christian School began at a chapel service at Dallas Theological Seminary in 2003. Tim Hawks, a pastor from Hill Country Bible Church in Austin, Texas, was the guest speaker. I remember he opened with, “Austin is a pagan city. We love pagans!” He then added, “Our mission is to reach every man, woman, and child in Austin with the life-changing reality of Jesus Christ.”

It seemed obvious to me that this mission was humanly impossible—it required divine intervention! I remember thinking, “Sign me up!”

It was 2006 before the Lord released Sherri and me from assignments in the Dallas area, so I interviewed for a position at Hill Country Christian School of Austin in May 2006 and started full time on August 1.

In my 19 years at Hill Country, I’ve been blessed to serve as Academic and College Counselor, Middle School Principal, Academic Dean, Department Chair, 6th-12th grade Principal, and most recently, as Head of School. I also taught (AP Calculus AB, Physics, Geometry, PreCal, etc.) for 10 of those years and coached middle and high school football for 12 seasons.

All three of our kids attended HillCo, and Sherri and I are incredibly grateful to have been part of this distinctively Christian community for almost 20 years.

It hasn’t always been easy, but I can confidently say, in retrospect, it has been good (Romans 8:28). I’ve come to understand that God equips those He calls, and that effective Christ-centered ministry always encounters turbulence.

Recently, in reflecting on my time here, I found myself pondering God’s faithfulness. Why (at times during my tenure seemingly against all odds) does God continue to sustain and provide for Hill Country Christian School? Despite obstacles and occasional crises, how does the school ministry consistently bear fruit?

Jesus says, “I am the vine and you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5 NIV).

The author of Hebrews says, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful” (Heb. 10:23 NIV).

Over the past 19 years, after experiencing a few valleys and many more mountaintops, I firmly believe the Lord’s hand is upon our school. He continues to sustain and provide for our ministry because, for 29 years, school leadership, faculty, and staff have sacrificially professed Christ in support of our mission.

As Head of School, I continue to pray the Lord will provide for Hill Country Christian School. I pray that He will expand our territory, allowing us to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in North Austin to more families for many years to come.

God is faithful, and I am confident His hand will continue to be on us if we remain in Him.

In Christ,

Dr. Jeff Marx, Head of School
