The Heart Behind Parent-Teacher Conferences

Dear Hill Country Families,
Today, we are hosting our annual Parent-Teacher conferences. I’m sure you’ve made that connection by now, since your kids are at home, likely running around and making messes (at least, that is what my kids are probably doing).
While you know it is conference day, you may not necessarily know the purpose of Parent-Teacher conferences at our school.
The first phrase of our mission statement reads: “We partner with Christian families…”
Our school was intentionally founded as an institution that exists to partner with you as Christian parents to help you raise your children in a gospel-centered school environment. To do this well, we need a solid and ongoing relationship with you, the parents, so we can best know how to serve your family and deliver an excellent education for your child(ren).
Parent-Teacher conferences serve as one mechanism for this. We hope that by meeting with your child(ren)’s teachers, you will get a closer look at how your child is doing academically, spiritually, and socially. Additionally, we hope it serves as an intentional connection point between you and your child(ren)’s teachers so you can better support them at home, and so the teacher can better support them at school. All of this is aimed at a better partnership towards an important outcome—a Christ-centered and excellent academic education for your child.
Why tell you this if it seems like a fairly basic notion? Simply, I want you to hear our desire again and again: to be excellent partners with you in helping educate and raise your children to be academically prepared and spiritually alive. To the degree we are doing this well, we will keep working hard. To the extent that we are not doing this as well as we would like, we appreciate your feedback (as expressed through the recent surveys) and are working diligently to make adjustments that will improve our programs.
Thank you for entrusting your children to us. We do not take this lightly, and we delight in serving you!
Eric DeVries, Head of School
